My Dearest Mother

Just a line to say that I hope and suppose you are all right after the d——d Boches visit. I imagine that if anything had happened to you there would still be someone left in Alford to send me a wire – Still it is hateful to think of those brutes and I’m longing to know further details. I had a letter from Mrs Maister yesterday by the same post as yours, so I will attend to Mr John Reed in the course of a few days.

We had a concert last night I sang “Si mes vers avaient des ailes” and then as an encore to cheer them up, the French version of the “Constant Lover”.

They loved it and many of them knew the tune.

No more now, I’m writing in work hours

Best Love

Dorothy.

Beyond the day job, and the garden, I love to delve into local and family history. While pursuing one project other snippets frequently distract me, resulting in the eclectic mix of tales from the past found here.
